Design Your World: New beginnings

Every new experience in our lives symbolizes a new beginning.  In the city center of Denver lies a beautiful public art piece known as East 2 West Source Point.  It is inspired by Janus, the Roman god of beginnings and transitions.  It reminds us that as we approach the end of another year, now is the time to reflect back on the past and to begin planning for the year to come. As I reflect on the past year, I realize that with every new design that I have created, I have had the chance to learn about a new place and be inspired by a new story.  With all those new beginnings comes change. Jimmy Dean once said, “I can't change...

There are so many things that I am thankful for. As my first Thanksgiving, I have learned so far that this holiday is a special one. It is about family and friends. It is about food and sharing story. It is a time to reflect on life. Outside it is cold and windy. Inside there is a fire. There is a wonderful smell in the air and the people I am surrounded by are rosy and happy. I am thankful for my loving family who has shown me endless love and support. I am thankful I was born in one of the most beautiful places in the world and one that inspired me to be creative and to dream. I am thankful...

Design your World: Stronger in Numbers.

In the heart of Los Angeles, there is a maze of beautifully restored historic street lamps from all over California. 202 carefully curated and restored historic street lamps make up the Urban Light installation. This unique structure is one of the most iconic destinations to visit in Los Angeles and has become one of the most instagrammed attractions that California has to offer. The way all of the lamps in the Urban Light installation come together represents all the different people that make up California. It takes more than one person to keep a community’s culture alive as it takes more than one lamp to fully illuminate this piece. The same goes to creating something special. To have one object alone like...

Design your World: A trip down Maiden Lane

Walk down Maiden Lane in San Francisco’s Union Square and you will see the epitome of luxury shopping. If it isn’t the high-end boutiques that draw you here, it is the allure of the dreamy lights that elegantly drape this fairy-tale like street. A destination for the finest couturiers today once held the steamy secrets of the underworld. In its time, Maiden Lane was the Red Light district of San Francisco known then as Morten Street. In the 1860’s it was home to notorious brothels, high murder rates, and a reputation for its sultry side more so than anything else. One can imagine the desire, passion and betrayal that these walls could speak. The 1906 earthquake shook San Francisco and its people...

Design Your World: Styled up Sentinel

“Create your own style… let it be unique for yourself and yet identifiable for others.” -Anna Wintour Columbus Tower is a vision in itself. Located on the outskirts of the Financial District and North Beach, one simply cannot miss this brightly colored copper-green gem that we all know as the Sentinel building. So unique in its structural form and color that one is pleasantly greeted with a site they wouldn’t expect to see. Built over a 100 years ago, this flatiron style building survived the 1907 earthquake and still stands today as one of the most prominent and recognizable buildings in San Francisco. The first time I saw this building It looked to me like it was taken straight out of an old-fashioned...
